Qwest Dex
Senior Consultant

I ran the Salt Lake City office for a Qwest Dex text-to-speech software development project. In addition to managing a staff of over a dozen people, I served as project manager working directly with the Salt Lake based development team and meeting twice weekly with the Denver based senior management and sales teams.

I was solely responsible for writing the test cases and determining random sampling specifications for the software and the associated product data library. I implemented both ‘glass box’ and ‘black box’ methodologies using isolated QC teams in order to assure a stable release while at the same time avoiding development bottlenecks. Furthermore, I wrote the majority of our groups QC utilities and all our database filtering utilities.

I also directly contributed to the design of the software. In fact, currently Qwest Dex has three patents (#20020193995, #20020077821 and #20020072908) under review by the United States Patent and Trademark Office in which I am named as co-inventor.

Micro–Connect, Inc.
Senior Consultant

Micro-Connect, Inc., under license from Qwest Dex, continued development of the text-to-speech technology I helped develop. During this stage of our effort I facilitated weekly meetings with members of the development group and I developed a Macintosh based suite of utilities that automated large parts of the QC process (thereby saving what would have otherwise required many hundreds of hours of manual effort). As the product continued to mature and evolve, I refined our test cases by successfully implementing a subset of the Capability Maturity Model. Furthermore. I managed the weekly JAVA builds. Near the end of the project’s life cycle I moved the JAVA build process to the XML based Apache Ant system.

Additionally I was tasked with building the software product’s sales and information website. This technology was marketed under the name of LinguaProfessio™.
